Our Garden Project
Thanks to a grant from Tesco Bags of Help scheme, during the summer of 2018 we were able to invest time and money into making the bit of land at the side of our building into an area the young people could enjoy and learn in.
We built a raised bed and got plenty of pots and planters. The young people planted seeds and bulbs and tended to these. We were able to harvest Strawberries, Raspberries, apples, tomatoes, peas, beans, potatoes, beetroot, spring onions and carrots and we were able to enjoy some barbecue days.
The £4,000 we got from “Tesco bags of help” is almost all spent, with the most recent expenditure on getting a bespoke mural painted on the side of the container in the garden and the unsightly, and probably a bit dangerous, wall at the fire exit now repaired and rough-cast and looking much tidier. There is just under £500 left to spend which will be used for some bulbs and planters for next year and a barbecue set which will allow the young folk to enjoy the garden area during the summers to come. November will see the end of the year-long project but I hope it has planted the seeds (see what I did there?) for something that can be worked on and used for many years to come.
